Tony Roberts and Mark Weaver, who had never met before this weekend, discovered the young girl trapped on the cliff after she fell 25 meters.

Mr Roberts, from Shrewsbury, and Mr Weaver, who is from Telford, were both enjoying family holidays in Clarach Bay when the incident happened on Saturday.

After being approached by a woman asking for their help they had both climbed up the cliff to reach the girl, who they intended to help down.

But once they reached her they realised it was impossible for all three of them to get down safely, so they had to wait for the emergency services.

While they were waiting they did what they could to calm the young girl down by talking to her about her school and her friends.

Mr Weaver, 46, said: "I can't remember exactly what we talked about but I remember we just wanted to make her laugh.

"She was very frightened and she had pretty much frozen, so we needed to clam her down."

They waited a few minutes for the coastguard and the fire service to arrive who then got all three down safely one-by-one.

Once on the ground they were checked over by the ambulance service who released them at the scene.

Mr Weaver said: "It felt like we were waiting ages for the emergency services, but we were literally only waiting a few minutes.

"When they arrived they scaled down the cliff face, but some of the rocks were hitting us on the head, so they had to cover us with a blanket.

"Once they reached us they then took us all down the one by one. It happened so quick and I just think the adrenaline took over.

"When we reached the bottom the little girl gave me a hug and thanked us both for what we did, which was lovely.

"I'm really chuffed with what we were able to do to help."

Neither of the men, or the girl, who has not been named, suffered serious injures.
