The resident in Welshpool, who has not been named, was called by someone claiming to be from a bank saying there had been a problem with their debit card.

Constable Lindsay Sweetman, who is based in Welshpool, said: "We have had a number of reports of a scam whereby a person has contacted them purporting to be from their bank stating there is a problem with their debit card and requesting their card number.

"One Welshpool resident has fallen foul of the scam to the value of £7,000. Please never provide your bank or card details to people over the phone. Do your own checks with your bank personally."
