Tributes pour in for well-loved Royal Irish mascot Finn
He was well-loved and was a loyal member of the Army regiment which he served.
Now tributes have been paid to the popular mascot of the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Regiment based at Tern Hill, near Market Drayton, who has died aged four.
Finn the Irish wolfhound, who was also known as Brian Boru IX, died in Northern Ireland earlier this month. He was due to join in with the Royal Irish Regiment's reunion in Clonaver Army Reserve Centre. The cause of his death has not yet been revealed.
Lieutenant Colonel Graham Shannon, commanding officer, said: "Finn was our regimental mascot – he led us on our parades and represented us as well as any Irish soldier.
"He was a unique mascot and followed a long line of Irish wolfhounds who represent us. Finn personified the strong, caring and friendly nature of our soldiers bringing joy to all those he met. He will be sorely missed and he has left a hole in the regiment."
Captain Steve Maguire, unit press officer, said: "Finn was part of the regimental family. He brought fun and joy to the regiment. On parades and events he brought a smile to many faces. He will be sorely missed."
