Man airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after industrial accident near Shifnal

A man has been airlifted to hospital after he became stuck underground in an industrial accident near Shifnal.

The drama happened just before 2pm in Ryton after reports of a man being trapped in a concrete structure.

The air ambulance was at the scene along with the fire service and a land ambulance.

The man, 50, was airlifted to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries.

The man managed to free himself before the emergency services arrived.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews attended an incident involving a male patient at premises near Shifnal.

"The patient, believed to be in his fifties, was trapped between a concrete post and panel. He was released before emergency crews arrived and treated for pelvic and lower back pain.

"Crews immobilised the patient with the use of a pelvic binder and he was given pain relief before being airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

It is not known how the person became trapped.
