Man injured after trying to save pet from vicious dog attack near Newport
A man suffered injuries after trying save his pet from a vicious dog attack near Newport.
A Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross was not on a lead when it attacked the man and his dog on Church Road, in Lilleshall while they were out for a walk.
The man suffered minor injuries to his hand when trying to separate the dogs.
However the man's dog, a Shih Tzu Ihasa Apso, is believed to have needed an operation following the attack.
Sarah-Jayne Lynch, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "The attack happened when a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross was off the lead, and no owner was around.
"The dog and owner received injuries during the attack. Police attended the incident and no arrests were made.
"However officers are following a line of inquiries to find the dogs owner. It is unclear what has happened to the dog at this time."
The attack happened on yesterday at around 12.40pm.
