Volunteers who run Newport Foodbank say more families in the town are struggling to make ends meet – even if people are in stable jobs.

People living in the area are being encouraged to continue to provide donations of food, either at a donations point at the town's Waitrose supermarket or at the foodbank at Pop In behind the Guildhall on Tuesday afternoons or Thursday mornings.

Jenny Townley, the facilitator of the foodbank, said: "We have always been used by low income families, the long term sick and those having hold ups with their benefit.

"But we have seen an increase in the number of working people who are struggling to make ends meet."

Visitors using the foodbank can also benefit from its tie-in with Thrive, a local support organisation, she said.
