Police praise public after mother collapses in Newport
Members of the public have been praised for their quick thinking when a young mother collapsed in the street.
The woman was pushing her six-month-old baby in a pram when she collapsed on Newport High Street.
Passing members of the public rushed to the woman's side and assisted her until an ambulance came.
The woman was then taken to the Princess Royal Hospital for further treatment.
PC Lee Thomas, Safer Neighbourhood Officer for Newport, said "I was on foot patrol on the High Street when I saw several ladies around a person lying on the floor outside the Boots store.
"The lady was clearly suffering from some sort of medical condition, and an ambulance was requested to attend immediately.
"I would like to say thank you to the members of the public who saw the lady fall to the floor.
"Not only did they immediately run to her aid and made sure she was comfortable and looked after - but also made sure her young baby was looked after until we could contact family members to attend and take care of the six-month-old."
The drama took place at around midday.
