Sadistic paedophile teacher from Shropshire border stays in jail

Three Appeal Court judges have refused to grant mercy to a sadistic 92-year-old ex-PE teacher jailed for a string of "appalling" sex crimes against schoolboys.

Marcus Marcussen, of Rochford, Tenbury Wells, became the oldest defendant to be jailed for the first time when he was handed a nine-year sentence in February for preying on 14 boys.

Marcussen, who taught at a school, in Weoley Castle, near Birmingham, and ran a sports club, was responsible for a sadistic and brutal regime, judges heard.

"The evidence at trial revealed he was a strict disciplinarian who abused his powers to act sadistically towards the children," Mr Justice Blake said.

On top of molesting victims, Marcussen enforced his will by threatening the boys with a "heavy whip", the court heard.

He forced youngsters to swim naked at the sports club, and insisted on examining their bodies.

Marcussen was convicted of 25 counts of indecent assault committed between 1957 and 1978.

Three of the charges concerned degrading sex acts committed against a teenage boy who was in care.

"This sentence cannot be said to be wrong in principle or manifestly excessive," the judge added.
