The sun shone as beaming Shrewsbury College students celebrated their achievements.

The procession made its way from The Square, down High Street and Shoplatch, to St Chad's Church for the official awards ceremony.

Shoppers and passers-by stopped to take in the spectacle. A total of 127 students had graduated from the college in a range of degree courses.

Steve Wain, principal of Shrewsbury College, said: "We have been offering HE courses at the college for nearly 20 years. It's a fantastic achievement for these students to be graduating and the parade is a real rite of passage before they go on into their future careers."

After the procession students from the college's performing arts department joined together in song to celebrate the year's successes, and to bid farewell to those graduating.

They performed choral arrangements of well-known songs.

Dr Lynnette Turner, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Education at Edge Hill University – one of the college's affiliate universities – was special guest speaker at the event.
