Welshpool Town Council will open the new car park at the town's railway station to help with increased passenger use since the new hourly service started on the line.
The plans were submitted to Powys County Council earlier this year and they have now been given the go-ahead.
A car park already exists at the station, but the new bays will be on the other side of the line.
In May, the Welsh Assembly launched a peak time hourly service between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth, which stops at Newtown and Welshpool.
