Mrs Trevanion, who lives at Greenfields Coverage Care Home, celebrated her 105th birthday surrounded by family.

That gave her a perfect excuse for a cuddle with little Helena, who rewarded her with a broad smile. And what's the secret to a long and happy life? Mrs Trevanion has always put her long life down to "everything in moderation".

David Coull, chief executive of Coverage Care which runs the home in Liverpool Road, Whitchurch, said: "This is a very special occasion and we were delighted to be able to celebrate with Molly.

"There are very few people who will reach these memorable landmarks. It is really very special."

Mrs Trevanion, who was born near Brighton, was one of five children and farmed in Sussex for 30 years before retiring to Shropshire to be closer to family.

On her birthday, she was thrilled to receive birthday cards from both the Queen and the Home Secretary Theresa May wishing her a happy birthday, which she spent with her family who have dubbed her an "inspiration".

Mrs Trevanion married husband Hugh in London and had two children.

She now has five grandchildren, including two who live in America. She has six great-grandchildren living in the UK and three in America.

Throughout her life she has astounded her friends and family – driving until she was 97, and rowing across Dearnford Lake to celebrate her centenary just five years ago. Her husband died 20 years ago and she moved to Iscoyd Park in Whitchurch, where her family now live.
