Shereece Williams, 10, who attends The Grange Primary School, in Shrewsbury, has been working on ways to help other children deal with bullying after staff at her school helped her through the experience.

She was also invited to give a presentation to Shropshire Council members at Shrewsbury's Shirehall.

Shereece said: "Every day I used to be bullied but the school helped me a lot. Mrs Beverley Williams has been helping me throughout. I just want to thank everyone who helped me."

Shereece said that the best thing she did was to tell her teachers about the problems she was facing, and encourages any other child faced with the same situation to do the same.

She said: "I didn't tell anyone and used to bottle it up and keep my mouth closed until my friend told me to go and tell someone. She helped me a lot. Make sure you tell a grown up you know, someone at school, your friends, to make sure that you are being supported when you are bullied."

Describing the help she had received from the school, Shereece said: "I have got a lot of help from people who are amazing. They make me feel happier. The school's made me much happier and I now want to live a happier life. I used to not want to go to school. Now I love school. Everything has made me much happier and I'm thankful that Mrs Williams is in this school."

Shereece has come up with her own poster campaign called "jump the hurdles" to help other children who are being bullied.

She said: "I read a book about a boy who was trying to jump hurdles but couldn't and got more and more angry. But eventually he jumped the hurdles."

The posters bear the slogan "Life is full of hurdles. Don't give up – just jump higher!"

Shereece's headteacher, Marie Sibley, said : "We are incredible proud of Shereece, she has learned to evaluate in situations. We always deal with bullying as soon as we are aware of it.

"When she opened up about the bullying the first thing we did was to put an end to that. We do not stop at bullying either, because Shereece was left believing the comments that were said, so we set about building her resilience which is very important."
