Shropshire driver has lucky escape after railway sleepers crash through windscreen
A driver had a lucky escape after wooden beams fell off a moving lorry on A41 and smashed through the windscreen of his car.
The driver managed to escape injury after the beams ploughed through the windscreen last Friday in the Woodcote area of Newport.
However the driver of the lorry did not stop, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.
Officers have also said that if there was a passenger in the car, at the time of the accident there could have been serious injuries.
Constable Lee Thomas, of West Mercia Police, said: "Luckily the driver was on his own in the car at the time and most of the damage was caused to the passenger side of the vehicle.
"The railway sleepers came off the load area of the lorry and smashed through the window of the damaged vehicle, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
"If there had been anyone sat in the front passenger seat of the car at the time, the potential consequences don't bear thinking about.
"I would like to appeal for anyone who was on the busy A41 at the time and may have witnessed this collision to come forward with whatever information they are able to provide.
"A couple of other motorists did stop at the scene, but unfortunately the lorry driver didn't, possibly not even aware at the time what had happened.
"No one at the scene was able to get the registration number of the lorry as everything happened so quickly, but if the driver does read this or anyone received a delivery of railway sleepers that was short of the number expected, please do get in touch."
Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting reference 0706S 030715.
