Organisers of the third Ellesmere Music Festival, held at the back of The Boathouse in the town on Saturday, say it was a huge success.

The home-grown festival was held to celebrate local bands and musicians from across the region. Ian Andrew, part of the Ellesmere Community Arts Group "Fizzgigs", which organises the event, said great fun was had by all.

He said: "It went very well. We had a good turnout and it was busy all day.

"There were five bands on during the day and two in the evening. We only had a little bit of rain but apart from that it was lovely weather.

"There were lots of families around and several people brought blankets and chairs so they could have a picnic.

"In the evening it was really good fun – with lots of people dancing. Great fun was had by all. The new venue by the Mere was perfect. I think it was much better to have the festival next to a stunning setting.

"Fingers crossed we can hold an event just as successful next year."

The festival is a donation-funded event with no tickets or entry charge.
