Adrian and Stephen Nicholls, both of Lake End Drive, Stirchley, had denied assaulting Jonathan Owen on July 26 last year, in an attack that left Mr Owen with a fracture to his left wrist, bruising around his eyes and bruising and swelling to his left ear.

A jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court cleared Stephen Nicholls, 28, but found Adrian Nicholls, 29, guilty of the attack.

During the trial, which started last Thursday, the jury heard that Mr Owen went to visit the brothers' sister, Kerry, at her house in Cranage Crescent, Wellington, to see if he could smooth over some of the problems that existed in the family.

Stephen Thomas, prosecuting, described how Mr Owen was subjected to a series of punches and kicks while he lay on the ground, and said that Mr Owen's own bike had been thrown on top of him.

Judge Jonathan Gosling ordered that a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Adrian Nicholls and granted him bail.

Adrian Nicholls has previous convictions for possession of a bladed article, possession of class C drugs, criminal damage and battery.

He will be sentenced on August 28.

Mr Stephen Nicholls was released.
