Plans for homes scaled back because of flooding fears
Plans for more than 30 homes in a north Shropshire parish have been scaled back after flooding concerns.
Developers Nigel Thorns Planning Consultancy were hoping to build a 70-bed care home alongside 31 homes on Whitchurch Road in Prees, near Whitchurch.
However the development has now been reduced to a total of 27 homes after backlash from the parish council and residents. Developers have also said they are planning to included an "area of local play" in order to respond to the parish council's concerns.
Prees Parish Council has considered the new documents and information and councillors have voted unanimously to continue to object to the application.
Lesley Rumney, clerk to Prees Parish Council, said major concerns remained among councillors despite the new application being submitted, adding: "They appreciate the reduction in the number of dwellings and the inclusion of a play area.
"But this and the information in the Hydraulic Model do not overcome the main concerns.
"The site is not part of SAMdev and is outside the development boundary for Prees.
"Due to the number of applications received concerning windfall sites in the past 12 to 18 months the Prees cluster is already well over the 100 houses it proposed, including two sites put forward in SAMdev. This application takes the figures up to 30 per cent further over the allocation in SAMdev, which given its progress should begin to carry more weight.
