Officers on Newport High Street were flagged down by motorists and passers-by at around 11.50am this morning.

The incident, involving a black Mercedes and a dark blue BMW car, happened along the stretch of High Street between the B&M store and the Pheasant pub.

PC Lee Thomas, from the Newport team, said: "Myself and a colleague were dealing with a separate matter on Lower Bar in the town when two motorists stopped to report what they described as a serious road rage incident further along the High Street.

"As we made our way along the High Street, several concerned members of the public also came over to us to report the same matter.

"On our arrival, neither of the described vehicles were present, but when making enquiries at local businesses, a witness pointed out one of the cars involved, the black Mercedes, was driving back along the street.

"That car was stopped and the driver spoken to but we also need to speak with the driver of the other vehicle, a dark blue BMW saloon, believed to be a 5 series and also any witnesses to the initial incident or matters that took place immediately following this "

  • Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Thomas at the Newport Safer Neighbourhood Team directly on 101 extension 66684.
