Arson attack on former Telford Methodist church

A former church – believed to be the oldest building in an area of Telford – has been targeted by arsonists.

A fire was discovered in the early hours at the former Stirchley Lane Methodist Church in Dawley.

Damage was caused to one room in the building, which dates back to 1840 and is currently up for sale for more than £75,000.

An offer has been made on the former church, which is being marketed by Telford-based estate agents Andrew Dixon & Co.

Firefighters and police were called to the building at about 5am on Saturday and Derek Taylor, fire crime officer for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that the fire was started deliberately.
