The cell in Malinsgate police station had to be professionally cleaned after Luke Tristan Higgs-Rigby caused £90 of damage to it.

Higgs-Rigby admitted a charge of criminal damage when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court.

Mr Mike Phillips, prosecuting, said the defendant had been arrested shortly before midnight on May 3 and had been "aggressive and uncooperative".

After being locked in his cell he proceeded to wipe blood from a nose bleed over the walls, spit at a cell camera and block the toilet with clothing, causing it to flood, said Mr Phillips.

The cell had to be abandoned and professionally cleaned, he added.

Higgs-Rigby, of Meadow Road, Newport, was fined £65 by magistrates and ordered to pay £90 compensation plus a total of £255 in court costs.

Mr Shakeel Ahmed, for Higgs-Rigby, said the defendant had suffered a stab wound to his arm and had become "frustrated" with police, who had told him to wait after he had requested medical attention.
