Demolition is well under way at the former Dairy Crest building, near Telford, and the factory will soon be torn down entirely to make way for more than 100 homes. Contractors AR Demolition workers moved in at the start of the month and the company today confirmed it was about 35 to 40 per cent into its 16 to 20 week programme.

How the dairy used to look

The site employed 200 at one point all working on products and spreads including Clover, Argento and Willow, plus Country Life butter.

But back in 2009 Dairy Crest announced plans to close the site before operations finally wound down at the end of last year.

The closure followed a scaling back of operations over the past two decades.
