'Looking good should never cost you your life': Statement from Eloise Parry's mother

Eloise Parry's mother Fiona issued a statement today after a coroner ruled her daughter had died from an accidental overdose of toxic "diet pills" containing  dinitrophenol, also known as DNP.

She said: "Eloise was an independent soul who was carving her way through life with difficulty, exploring the world and trying to make something of herself in the process.

"Living life to the full always involves taking risks, we weigh up the pros and cons, and decide whether the risk is worth taking.

"Everyday, I allow my children to use sharp knives and use unguarded gas mains, because I believe that learning to cook is worth the risk.

"Eloise decided that, even though she had been told that DNP was dangerous, being slimmer was worth the risk.

"She was convinced the dangers were being exaggerated, sometimes she even thought that she was being lied to. She was wrong.

"If anything, it was even more dangerous than she had been told.

"She weighed up the pros and cons, and made a bad choice. And it cost her her life.

"I would implore anybody even considering taking DNP not to do so.

"These substances are sold by people who do not care about your health, they just want your money.

"You can't know whether or not you are getting what you pay for, and probably you are not. It will almost certainly be impure, and the impurities can be something really nasty.

"You also don't know what doses you are getting, it can vary hugely. There will be absolutely no quality control in the production of these substances.

"You will be taking a substance that will ultimately destroy your health and your looks from the inside out.

"Please, don't do it.

"Looking good should never cost you your health or your life.

"DNP - Do Not Purchase, Do Not Partake. Do Not Please, Death's Not Pleasant."
