Woman foils thief in Telford bag snatch attempt

A would-be thief ran off empty-handed after trying to snatch a woman's handbag in Telford.

West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident at at around 8am on Saturday in the Woodside area.

A police spokesman said; "A 40-year-old woman was walking on the underpass from the Woodside estate to the new Aldi supermarket in Madeley. A man who was walking in the opposite direction grabbed the woman's handbag and attempted to pull it from her shoulder.

"The woman kept hold of her bag and retaliated. The offender then ran away from the scene."

The offender is described as a white man, possibly a teenager, 5'10" tall and of medium build. He was dressed in black with a black balaclava or similar covering his face.

Witnesses are asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 181S of Saturday July 25.
