Flamboyant fashions, iconic cars and ground-breaking music – the Severn Valley Railway is taking visitors back to the swinging 60s.

The attraction will host its Sounds of the 60s event from August 14 to 16 – the era when the railway was first launched after the Beeching cuts.

Visitors are invited to get dressed up as the railway pays a colourful tribute to one of the most iconic decades in Britain's history, with a rocking mix of evening concerts and daytime attractions.

An intensive service of heritage steam and diesel trains will be running throughout the weekend, taking passengers up and down the 16-mile line.

There will be fashion shows at regular intervals to showcase some of the hottest trends of the decade, from mini-skirts to PVC dresses, drainpipe jeans to paisley prints.

At The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley three replica Italian Job Minis will be on display alongside the railway's collection of steam engines.

Familiar

Fans of TV's Doctor Who will find themselves face to face with a very familiar character at The Engine House on Saturday and Sunday, with appearances from one of the infamous Daleks.Toes will be tapping all along the line with a wealth of 60s music.

Visitors can also enjoy a tipple at the 60s minibar or pick up authentic bargains thanks to a range of stalls selling 60s memorabilia.

Lewis Maddox, the attraction's event co-ordinator, said: "Our inaugural Sounds of the 60s event looks set to arrive with a bang, offering lots to do for visitors of all ages – we'd love people to dress in 60s outfits and come and join the fun.

"We want to celebrate the colour and energy of this ground-breaking decade with a wide range of activities and entertainment, to capture the spirit of the decade in which the SVR was born."
