Orphaned otter cub found by side of road
An orphaned otter cub has been taken into RSPCA care after she was found on the side of the road in Mid Wales.
A member of the public spotted the lethargic otter at 9.30pm last Thursday evening at Glanhafren, Cyfronydd, near Welshpool.
He later saw the otter again at 12.23am - and took the otter home in a box for safety until the RSPCA arrived.
RSPCA inspector Phil Lewis has now taken the otter cub to RSPCA's Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Cheshire for rehabilitation.
Mr Lewis said: "She was uninjured, but was without her parents - so has been taken to our wildlife centre for rehabilitation.
"The cub is doing okay at the moment and is eating well which is encouraging."
Inspector Lewis added: "We advise monitoring first to check that a baby wild animal is genuinely orphaned or abandoned, as mum is often nearby and waiting for you to leave.
"If you are concerned for the welfare of a young wild animal that seems to be alone, please watch from a distance and call the RSPCA's Cruelty & Advice line on 0300 1234 999."
