Motorists face misery on Shropshire roads

Motorists are facing misery on the county's roads as repair and maintenance works got under way.

A number of busy routes across Shropshire will be closed this week as engineers begin work to repair footpaths and replace cables and high voltage wires.

Works to install a new gas connection on Bogey Lane in Pontesbury, near Shrewsbury, started yesterday and will end tomorrow.

Access to the lane remains blocked and an alternative route via main road and Chapel Street is in place. Motorists were using an alternative route due to engineers connecting a new clean water supply on the unclassified road between Kenley, near Much Wenlock, and Harley.

The work started yesterday and should be complete by the end of tomorrow. A diversion is in place along Wood Lane.

Traffic will be blocked from using the unclassified road at Dudleston Heath, near Ellesmere, for three days from tomorrow between 9am and 4.30pm as engineers install a new underground cable.

Meanwhile, no vehicle will be able to park and wait on a section of Highgate in Whitchurch, which runs from the junction with Alkington Road to number 18 Highgate, for 24 days from Wednesday.

It comes as a high voltage cable will be installed.

In Craven Arms, Long Lane will be closed at the level crossing due to maintenance works between 8pm on Wednesday to 6am the following day. A diversion will be in place.

Elsewhere, motorists will be forced to find alternative routes to the B4373 in Bridgnorth due to work to remove an existing footbridge and erect a replacement bridge.

Work begins on Friday between 9pm to 7am, the same time on Saturday and finally on Sunday. A diversion along Northgate will be in place.
