Two Telford care homes rated as 'good' by inspectors
Two care homes in the Telford area have been rated as "good" by inspectors.
Standford House, in Sambrook, near Newport, and Hatton Court Care Home in Whitchurch Road, Cold Hatton, were the only two from Shropshire to be inspected in the latest round by the Care Quality Commission.
The CQC has published a further 51 reports on the quality of care provided by care homes across the Midlands inspected by specialist teams.
Thirty six were rated as "good", 13 were rated "requires improvement" and two "inadequate".
Under CQC's new programme of inspections, all of England's adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.
The inspection at Standford House, which is run by Claremont Care, took place unannounced on June 23. It provides accommodation for up to 12 people with learning disability across three buildings on one site.
At the time of this inspection there were five people living in the recently opened purpose built home, who required different levels of support. Inspectors rated the home "good" for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.
However, while Hatton Court was rated as "good" overall, it was marked at "requires improvement" for the "safe" category. The home, which is run by Springcare (Hatton) Limited, was inspected unannounced on June 2.
It provides accommodation with nursing and personal care for a maximum of 60 people. On the day of the our inspection 58 people were living at the home.
The report states: "At the time of the inspection people were not supported by sufficient staff numbers. However, following the inspection these have been reviewed and increased on Ellerdine unit."
Sue Howard, Deputy Chief Inspector for Adult Social Care in the Central region, said:"People are entitled to services which provide safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care. If that is what we find on inspection - we give the service a rating of Good, or Outstanding.
"Where we find that services are not good enough, we will give a rating of Requires Improvement or Inadequate. If we find that a service requires improvement, we will expect them to provide us with a full plan setting out how they will address the issue. We will share our findings with local commissioners, and we will return in due course to check that the required improvements have been made.
"Whenever we find a service to be Inadequate, we will consider taking further action on behalf of the people who use the service."
