Cracks appeared in Bridge Road to the north of thw town, and officials from Telford & Wrekin Council closed the road in the interest of public safety and to carry out an investigation.

The road closure led to queues and slow traffic during Tuesday's evening rush hour.

It is not yet known what caused part of the road to give way.

Diversions were set up via Ironbridge Road and B4375 High Street.

It comes after Jiggers Bank in the nearby Ironbridge Gorge was closed for several months after a landslide in November 2012.
