Did you see face of evil in Shropshire storm?

It looks for all the world like a scene from a horror film – a huge demon's face, nose and teeth forming in the air and preparing to swallow the house below it whole.

But this picture was actually taken by Shropshire photographer Fliss Sumner, and the only thing horrific about it is the weather the cloud formation is about to bring.

"I seriously thought this sky was going to eat me," said Fliss, who took the picture ahead of Saturday evening's terrible downpours.

And the weather hasn't improved a great deal since then, with heavy rain returning every day since.

However, Shropshire can think itself lucky to have escaped the worst of the current rainy season.

Southern and eastern England, on the other hand, will experience torrential downpours and lightning today as rain moves in from the south west.

A yellow weather warning – the third this week – has been issued for the south of England with 20-30mm of rain expected.

But we could be in for a break, with today's forecast to be cloudy but mostly dry in Shropshire.

And it will be pleasant, too, with temperatures set to peak at 20C (68F).

The pattern will continue tomorrow and Friday with rain not set to return until Saturday night.

Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said: "The indications are, as we go into Monday and the start of next week, that the high pressure is going to dominate and we are going to see more settled conditions."
