The plans, for Horsehay, were approved when it went before the planning committee.

The proposal will see 14 affordable dwellings built in Pool Hill Road complete with associated access, parking and landscaping.

The plans went before the planning committee during a meeting at the Telford Whitehouse Hotel on Tuesday.

Councillor Steve Barnes, member for Dawley and Aqueduct, was one of those who spoke against the bid. He said 63 residents had signed a petition opposing it.

He added: "Traffic management is an issue, infrastructure is limited and it still has to be determined if there are mine workings in the area."

Brian Evason, a resident, said that other residents of Pool Hill Road and Station Road were against the proposal.

He said: "We are concerned that the development will affect highway safety and as this was a mining region we are also worried that the land could be unstable."

Tony Hinds, speaking on behalf of the Bromford Group, which put forward the proposal, said: "The houses fulfil a local need."

When the proposal went to the vote it was passed and Sue Oliver, a resident of Pool Hill Road said: "I am very disappointed at the committee's decision."
