Land in Newport town centre for sale for £1.35m
Homes, businesses or shops could be built on a plot of land in Newport town centre, it was revealed today.
The site off Water Lane, which backs onto High Street, has gone up for sale for £1.35 million – and has been earmarked for residential or commercial development.
However, developers interested in buying the land must obtain their own planning permission for any future building plans.
The news has been welcomed by Newport Town Council. The one acre site is being advertised by Barbers in Newport. It states: "An exciting opportunity to acquire a substantial site of nearly one acre suitable for residential and or commercial development, subject to receipt of necessary planning consent. Offers invited subject to prospective purchasers obtaining their own planning permission."
Lee Jakeman, town clerk at Newport Town Council, said: "I would suggest that the town council is likely to be keen for the site to be developed for a more appropriate use, be that a mixture of retail, accommodation or employment."
