But rather than being the late night work of vandals, it's the result of an art workshop attended by youngsters in Whitchurch.

They youngsters worked together on a painting project inspired by the town, painting well-known landmarks.

Shropshire Council and Whitchurch Town Council worked in partnership and pooled resources to bring the event to the town again.

Previous graffiti artwork is on display in Pepper Street and the gallery at the rear of the Civic Centre.

Nicky Young, spokeswoman for the event, said it was well attended.

She said: "About 23 young people aged between eight and 15 attended. It has been a great day and the participants have really enjoyed it.

"They have created three boards with pictures on. When the children arrived they were told to fill the boards with items that reminded them of Whitchurch.

"They have written the word Whitchurch along one of the boards in Fairtrade colours – as we are a Fairtrade town.

"There are also pictures representing that we are a walkers welcome town and pictures of the canal and markets.

"It is a joint venture between Shropshire Council and Whitchurch Town Council."

The artwork will now be on display in the town Civic Centre on High Street for people to view.
