Four kilometers of water pipes to be replaced in Shrewsbury
Four kilometres of water pipes will be replaced in a Shrewsbury as part of a major overhaul.
Severn Trent said it will be carrying out the work to make water supplies more reliable in the Weeping Cross area of the town.
It comes just days after a scheme to replace four miles of pipes beneath Cleobury Mortimer was announced by the firm.
Before the work begins in Shrewsbury, a drop-in session will be held to give local residents the opportunity to hear more about the plans.
The session will be held on Monday at Meole Brace Memorial Hall, Upper Road between 4pm and 7pm.
The scheme is part of a £2.1 million investment the company is undertaking in the area this year.
Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent Water, said: "To make sure the water pipes in Weeping Cross continue to serve the community for years to come we need to replace over four kilometres of pipes in the area.
"We'd encourage local people to come along, meet the team and learn more about our work, but to also give their views - after all, the people who know the area best are the local residents.
"This work could be tricky, and while we think we've found the best way of laying the pipes with the minimum impact, we're hoping that by talking to the community, they'll help us to find those little gems of information which can make a huge difference to our plans."
As part of the work, the company said there will be a series of road closures and temporary traffic light systems in place.
Mr Mead added: "We know that we may cause some inconvenience for the local community, and we'd like to apologise to anyone who will be affected by this work and to ask for their patience.
"We know that closing roads will cause disruption, but this work will help us to keep the water running for our customers for years to come."
The work in Cleobury Mortimer will start in October and will also include a rolling programme of road closures.
Dave Kiernan, senior programme engineer, said concerned residents can attend a drop-in session at the market hall from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday.
