Leak closes Whitchurch Swimming Centre for two weeks
A water leak at Whitchurch Swimming Centre has closed the pool for two weeks despite initial plans to only shut the service for three days.
Shropshire Council announced yesterday that the centre will be closed until September 21 for "essential maintenance works".
Peter Davis, Shropshire Council's leisure services manager, said: "The reason for the closure is to identify and repair the source of a water leak in the pool tank.
"The amount of water being lost has gradually increased, and attempts to find the problem without closing the pool have been unsuccessful.
"When the specialist contractor has repaired the leak, the pool will need refilling and the water heated and chemically treated, which takes time."
The pool was initially meant to be shut from Monday to Wednesday this week.
