Letter: Internet search is very illuminating
I must thank Peter Keen for correcting me on my geography of Shropshire as to Shrewsbury not being on the western edge of Shropshire (Shropshire Star, September 1).
It is however on the very western edge of the population of Shropshire which is the relevant point when talking about the siting of the A&E unit.
In fact, of the main centres of population in Shropshire, only Oswestry is further west than Shrewsbury, with the A&E being on the western edge of Shrewsbury.
He also states that living on the eastern edge of Shropshire we have several alternative A&E units we could attend. Wolverhampton being the one he mentioned. Wolverhampton A&E is on the far side of the city making it a very difficult journey at the best of times and it would take over an hour from Newport.
Stafford A&E is under threat or has been closed.
I am not asking for the provision of health services to be "sucked in our direction" but to locate it in the centre of the population it serves (unlike our orthopaedic hospital).
One only had to do an internet search to see the populations of the relevant areas of Shropshire which is very illuminating.
