Drunk Telford man, 24, found with knives in his belt
A Telford man who found himself being woken by police officer as he lay with two knives tucked into his belt next to half a bottle of cider had no idea how he got there, a court heard.
Jordan Jon Glover yesterday pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in a public place when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court.
Mr Mike Phillips, prosecuting, said the 24-year-old had been woken by officers after a member of the public called the police reporting a man lying in the street at midnight on August 23.
"The defendant was lying on his back in the middle of the road next to a half-empty bottle of Frosty Jack's Cider," said Mr Phillips. The two knives were tucked into Glover's waistband, he added.
Glover was arrested and later told police that he could not recall why he had the knives and admitted he was drunk.
Magistrates gave Glover a six-month community order with probation supervision and 10 days of rehabilitation activities.
He was fined £50 and ordered to pay a total of £210 in costs.
Mr Dean Easthope, for Glover, said the defendant had been thrown out of his accommodation as he could no longer afford the rent. Glover had decided to head out for a walk "to let off some steam", said Mr Easthope, who added that Glover was currently living with his mother in Smallwood, Sutton Hill, Telford.
The court was told that the probation service would be able to assist Glover to find accommodation and work.
