Tyler Titley, 18, from Crescent Road, Hadley, broke into the homes in Telford and stole iPads, mobile phones, more than 40 items of jewellery and £3,000 cash.

He was sentenced to 20 months in a young offenders' institute by Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Terry Eardley, 21, of Haybridge Avenue, Hadley, who acted as a look-out for Titley during a burglary in Lincoln Road, Wrockwardine Wood, on June 15, was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Eardley had admitted one charge of burglary.

He was also ordered to carry out 150 hours' unpaid work and was placed on a curfew meaning he can't leave the house between 8pm and 5.30am.

He was also ordered to pay a £900 criminal court charge and £100 costs.

Mr Recorder Simon Mills said he had no option but to jail Titley, who had admitted three charges of burglary.

He said: "You pleaded guilty to all three, which is in your favour, but these are very serious crimes. In the first of the three you broke into a house and stole goods while a family of five slept upstairs.

"You took items such as an iPad and mobile phone and these had sentimental value as they had images of the couple's three children from birth and were not recovered."

He burgled homes in Shoveller Drive, Leegomery, and Sunningdale, Hadley.

Mr Paul Smith, for Titley, said his client showed remorse for the incidents.

Ms Lisa Hancox, for Eardley, said her client acted as a look-out. He had recently got a job and was providing for his young family.
