The inquest was opened by Shropshire coroner, John Ellery today at Shirehall in Shrewsbury.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hopwood told the inquest opening that contractors working on the M54 junction four slip road near the Castle Farm Interchange in Telford contacted police after finding what thought was a skull. This was confirmed as human remains and a search revealed other remains, he said.

A post mortem by Dr Nicholas Hunt found the remains to be a male.

Detective Sergeant Hopwood said the cause of death had been unattainable.

"On September 7 a number of further human remains were found," he said.

The coroner adjourned the inquest until December 2.

The find was off the eastbound slip road at the junction for Priorslee and Shifnal across the carriageway from the motorway services.

The skull was found around 50 yards from the slip road, down a steep bank and in heavy undergrowth. Police have said the remains had been there for at least two years.
