The Malpas Yesteryear Rally saw thousands attend the two-day festival over the weekend with steam engines, cars, motorbikes and tractors taking centre stage at the event.

Rail enthusiasts were able to visit the model tent as well as watch falconry displays in the arena for the event based at Hampton Heath in Malpas, near Whitchurch.

Organiser Bill Evans said the club was founded in 1971 and this year had been the 42nd of its kind.

He said: "We had all sorts of things going on over the weekend. We have had more exhibits than ever before. I think we had in total 1,050.

"We don't have quite as many exhibitors but that is because some people bring more than one thing.

"We have had 39 traction engines and roamers, 100 commercial vehicles and 45 tractors. I think we had about 140 cars as well but not as many on the first day. For the first day the weather wasn't as good, but it got much better afterwards.

"I don't know how many visitors we had just yet because the numbers haven't been worked out but I think we have done as well as previous years."

Stationary engines, cycles, commercial and military vehicles and horses were also being exhibited at the event and Mr Evans said there was a special "play pen" for tractor owners.

He said: "We call it the play pen, it is where people who have brought along tractors can go and have a play with any equipment they have brought with them or anything that is on site already.

"They really enjoy that area because they don't get to do that a lot.

"Some people who own a tractor live on an estate – you can't do a lot with a tractor there so people come along and they can have a go when they are here."
