'Heartbreaking vandalism' as child's gravestone trashed in Ironbridge

Police have blasted vandals who have trashed a gravestone in the children's section of a cemetery in Ironbridge.

The vandals struck at sometime between 12pm on Friday, August 14 and 3pm on Saturday, August 15 at Castle Green Cemetery, off Lincoln Hill.

Sentimental ornaments and tokens were knocked over and damaged, while a general mess was also made around the grave.

Constable Jamie Gough said: "This is a heartbreaking act of vandalism which has obviously caused a lot of distress for the family.

"This offence appears to be a deliberate act as the grave is some distance from the footpath.

"I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the cemetery, or knows anything about this offence, to contact police on 101."
