Lucky escape as car ploughs backwards into Shropshire pub beer garden

Three women were lucky to walk away from this car in Shropshire today after the driver reversed, ploughed backwards through a pub garden fence and hit another vehicle.

Emergency services rushed to The Woodbridge Inn on the banks of the River Severn in Coalport, Telford, at about 2.30pm.

The three women inside the silver Skoda had pulled into the car park just before the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Before ploughing through the fence and down the bank, the car also smashed into a blue Peugeot parked next to it.

The women were treated for minor injuries by paramedics.

Recovery teams worked at the scene for some time. to winch the vehicle back up the slope.

PCSO Malcolm Goddard, of Broseley and Much Wenlock Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "The occupants of this car had a lucky escape at the Woodbridge - minor injuries only.

"They were able to walk away from the incident. It is clear the three ladies had a mishap and they had not yet been inside the pub.

"It seems they reversed and went through the fence. The main problem was they were shaken up.

"Damage was caused to the fence, another car and the Skoda itself, but no one was seriously hurt.
