Alister Taylor placed a package containing an aerosol attached to a CD drive by wires and shoelaces near the entrance to Wellington Medical Practice in Telford, Shrewsbury Crown Court was told.

His actions caused Victoria Road in Wellington to be sealed off and bomb disposal units to be called after "suspicious package" was taken to the nearby police station by a member of the public.

Two controlled explosions were carried out at the scene. Residents were evacuated from their homes to the nearby Tesco store and businesses were also forced to close for the morning after the discovery in July, the court was told.

Taylor, of Victoria Avenue, Wellington, yesterday admitted a charge of placing an article with intent causing the belief that it was likely to explode or ignite, causing damage to persons or property.

He was warned a prison sentence could not be ruled out when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday.

Judge Robin Onions adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Taylor by the probation service, but warned the defendant "all options" remained open when it came to sentencing.

He was remanded in custody to appear back at Shrewsbury Crown Court on November 30, when he will learn his fate.
