More than 1,000 people have signed a petition to save a Shropshire village library.

The petition to save Shawbury Library will be presented at a full Shropshire Council meeting on Thursday after fears it would be cut to a mobile service.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire councillor for Shawbury, said he understood 1,200 signatures had been collected.

Earlier this year it was revealed the council is seeking alternative management to take over the library – one of many in the county – in a bid to save £1.3m.

But no organisation has come forward yet.
