Harper Adams celebrates top 50 spot in universities league table
Shropshire's agricultural university has been named as one of the top 50 higher education institutions in the country.
Harper Adams University in Edgmond, near Newport, has risen 14 places to 49th place in a list compiled by a national newspaper. It comes after the university was earlier this year placed in the top five by respondents to the National Student Survey.
Dr David Llewellyn, the university's vice-chancellor, said he was delighted with the result, which he said reflected the university's strong performance.
He said: "We are delighted to have been placed in the top 50 universities in the UK, reflecting our strong performance in the University Guide's assessment of the quality of our teaching and the experience we provide for our students.
"It follows hot on the heels of the fifth place we achieved in the National Student Survey and several recent awards for the provision of an outstanding student experience and student support.
"Having risen 14 places in this year's Times and Sunday Times main league table is the result of a lot of hard work by our staff and students who thoroughly deserve this recognition for all that they do on behalf of the university."
As well as being in the top 50 in the UK, Harper Adams has been named as the sixth best university in the West Midlands.
The University of Warwick – winner of The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year award last year – remains at the top of the list for area.
Warwick was also placed at sixth nationally. Also in the top 10 West Midlands universities was Keele in Staffordshire, Birmingham City, Aston, Worcester and Newman.
The guide also named Coventry University the Modern University of the Year for the third consecutive year and the University of Birmingham as the University of the Year for Graduate Employment.
