£8,000 digger stolen from Newport found by police

A mini digger worth £8,000, which had been stolen along with two trailers worth thousands of pounds have been found by police.

The digger was stolen from farmland between Newport and Lilleshall over the August bank holiday weekend.

Information was given to the police, after an appeal on Shropshirestar.com, which led officers to a compound in Oakengates, Telford.

While there officers found the digger as well as the two Ivor Williams trailers.

Constable Lee Thomas of West Mercia Police said: "A warrant was obtained from the local magistrates allowing police to gain access to a compound where the mini digger stolen from Newport and two Ivor Williams trailers worth several thousand pounds, believed to be stolen were located.

"Unfortunately, at this time, the investigating officers have not been able to identify the persons responsible for these crimes and we would ask anyone with information regarding these thefts to get in touch with the police.

"Rural crime is a major problem across the UK and we make every effort to do what we can to tackle such crimes cause."
