Disruption for drivers over Welshpool emergency roadworks
Drivers in Welshpool are being warned about disruptions after emergency roadworks began in the town centre.
Welshpool Town Council said Scottish Power began the emergency works in Berriew Street yesterday, with delays set to continue until Friday.
Town clerk Robert Robinson said: "It is hopeful that disruption will be kept to a minimum because the traffic management proposal is to keep the permanent lights operating, with their operation being under manual control with the addition of a man with stop/go board under radio contact on Berriew Street.
"The control box for the permanent lights is right on The Cross junction so this man will have visibility of traffic build up on Church Street and Severn Street and of pedestrian demand and will be informed via the radio of what is happening on Berriew Street.
"The advantages of this are that disruption is minimised, pedestrians can be catered for at The Cross, any deliveries on Berriew Street can be coped with and traffic and pedestrian flow is maintained according to where the demand is.
"In addition the contractor will endeavour to plate up their works and return the lights to automatic function every evening, however this will only happen if the fault they are correcting doesn't end up with too big a hole in the footway."
