More than 250 homes planned for two areas of Telford
More than 250 homes could be built in two areas of Telford & Wrekin if plans are given the go-ahead.
Two planning applications have been submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council, one for 103 homes along with 50 extra care flats in Arleston and 100 houses in Leegomery.
In the application submitted by Barton Willmore, plans include building a complex with 50 self-contained flats, which would include a shop, restaurant, café, hair and beauty salon and meeting rooms.
The extra care facilities would provide residents with domestic support and personal care by on-site staff.
The application, on the land between Arleston Lane and Dawley Road, in Arleston, would also see 100 homes built on the site if approved.
The land off Peregrine Way, Leegomery would also see 100 homes built on the site. The application was submitted by agent Richard Lomas.
The applications will go to planning committee in the coming months.
However, Emily Taylor from the council confirmed the applications submitted last week fall outside the blueprint for the Telford & Wrekin Local Plan draft.
The local plan lays out what the council will use for town planning decisions affecting the borough until 2031, with the consultation ending tomorrow.
The plan proposes to allocate 149 hectares of new employment land on 28 sites, which could provide up to 25,000 new jobs in the borough.
The consultation opened in August, and has given residents the chance to have their say.
Councillor Richard Overton, the council's deputy leader and cabinet member for housing, public health and protection, said: "The local plan is a very clear statement on what we believe should be the direction of the borough's future housing and employment development.
"We have listened to the feedback we have had from local people and the number of new homes allocated in the local plan is over 41 per cent less than what was agreed in 2010.
"During this current eight week period of consultation, we have already had nearly 300 responses.
"This plan would give us further power to block speculative developments outside the plan.
"We have also committed to expanding our Green Network and to protecting at least 100 green spaces. The borough's mix of urban and green space is what makes this borough so special.
"Finally, the plan envisages creating new employment land that could provide for up to 25,000 jobs – essential to support our growing population and to ensure the borough remains a place that people can live and work in.
"We have ensured that the local plan reflects the feedback we have already had and it's vital we hear as many views as possible and I would urge everyone to get involved in the consultation."
Consultation on the local plan runs until 5pm on Friday. The document can be seen at www.telford.gov.uk/localplan
