Fire crews, police, and the ambulance service were mobilised on Sunday to look for the aircraft which was reported to have crashed in the Kinlet area, near Cleobury Mortimer.

Despite a meticulous search lasting almost four hours and involving at one point two helicopters, nothing was found.

She said: "At just after 11am police were called to an initial report from a member of the public of what was believed to be a light aircraft in difficulty in the Billingsley area of Bridgnorth. Emergency services attended the scene along with the National Police Air Service. Searches were ongoing until the early evening along with enquiries with airports and flying clubs to establish any missing aircraft.

"There have been no reports of missing aircraft, no wreckage has been recovered and there have been no further reports or sightings."

The Gloucestershire-based Severn Area Rescue Association was even called in to help search wooded areas on the Shropshire-Worcestershire border.

Initial information suggested the crash was near Moffats School at Kinlet Hall, with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service alerted at 11.13am. Six fire appliances were mobilised and at one point 10 police vehicles were at the scene, along with the helicopter.
