Inquest due to open on death of schoolboy, 12, near Shropshire border
An inquest is due to open into the death of a 12-year-old boy who fell from a rope swing.
Ethan Rainey, from Trevor, near Llangollen, was playing with friends beside the River Dee near the Pontcysyllte aqueduct when the tragedy happened on Wednesday evening.
Flowers were laid at the scene of the accident and dozens of people took to Facebook to pay tribute to the schoolboy, who played football was a keen sportsman who played football for his school, Dinas Bran in Llangollen. One said: "R.I.P bro I tried to save you."
Mia Nash said: "That lovely smile and humour of yours will be missed Ethan. You're such a lovely lad who will be remembered forever."
And Sophie Li Evans posted: "I will always remember when you scored a goal to win the tournament when we were under 8. Will never forget you, hope you are ok up there. You are an amazing boy."
North Wales Police are investigating Ethan's death on behalf of the coroner but has said it is not treating the tragedy as suspicious. Trained family liaison officers are providing support to the family and Dinas Bran School and Denbighshire County Council are working together to provide support for pupils and teachers at the school.
The historic aqueduct, a UNESCO world heritage site, was to have been illuminated on Thursday night as part of a nationwide celebration. But the plans were cancelled as a mark of respect to the Ethan's family.
John Gittins, coroner for North Wales, is expected to open an inquest into Ethan's death on Monday at Ruthin County Court.
