Boy who died after falling from rope swing on Shropshire border had head injury, inquest told

A boy who died after falling from a rope swing near the Shropshire border hit his head on a rock, it was revealed at the opening of an inquest.

Ethan Brady-Rainey, 12, is believed to have fallen into the river while playing with friends at Pontcysyllte on September 30, but at a brief hearing in Ruthin John Gittins, the coroner for North Wales East and Central, said he understood that the other children were not present when the incident occurred.

Dr Mark Lord, who carried out the post-mortem examination, said that death was due to a head injury following a fall from a height.

Ethan, of Telford Avenue, Trevor, was a Year 8 pupil at Ysgol Dinas Bran, Llangollen.

The inquest was adjourned to a full hearing which is expected to be in Ruthin in February.

Flowers were laid at the scene of the accident last week and dozens of people took to Facebook to pay tribute to the schoolboy, who played football was a keen sportsman who played football for his school, Dinas Bran in Llangollen.

One said: "R.I.P bro I tried to save you."

Mia Nash said: "That lovely smile and humour of yours will be missed Ethan. You're such a lovely lad who will be remembered forever."
