Kalun Longman, 16, was killed in the crash on the A483 at Llanymynech, near Oswestry, yesterday morning.

The teenager, from Newtown, was a student at the town's high school. Last night his father Christopher said he was "broken- hearted" by his son's death.

His father said: "We are broken-hearted and just lost for words. We are absolutely devastated and would like some time to grieve now in peace."

Sian George, spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police, said: "At approximately 8.10am police were made aware of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A483 Welshpool to Llanymynech road. The two vehicles were a motorcycle and a transit van. Sadly, the male moped rider sustained fatal injuries."

The A483 was closed for seven hours between Llanymynech and Four Crosses after the crash.

Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.
